How to check for wear
Look at the contact face and overall diameter first — as the face wears down and the wheel shrinks it pulls back from the furrow and stops closing cleanly. Spin the wheel and watch it turn: a wobble usually means the connecting bolt has bent under load, so replace it to keep the wheel running true beside the furrow. Hold the arm, spin the wheel and listen for a rumble that signals a dry or worn bearing. Then steady the arm and try to wiggle the wheel — any play means the bearing is collapsing and needs replacing.
