How to check for wear
Check the top face of the cover plate and the slotting for rounding and wear. Inspect where the T-handle post contacts the plate — the posts thin out over time, and if one snaps you can't hold furrow depth, so check them seasonally. The more play and range of movement between handle and plate, the more your seed depth varies; a rounded, loose adjuster arm can give up to an inch of vertical movement each way, which shows up as inconsistent depth and patchy emergence. Replace the parts before that play gets away from you.
